How to run your station

A quick-start guide and answers to common questions. Type to search everything below.

Quick start

1
Upload your music
Open Media library and upload MP3 files. Uploading puts them in your Library - it does not put them on air yet.
2
Add songs to AutoDJ
On the Media page, switch "In AutoDJ" On for the songs you want to broadcast, or use "Add all to AutoDJ".
3
Publish
Go to Playlists (AutoDJ) and click "Publish to station". Your changes only go live when you Publish.
4
Listen
Open your Listen link. After a short buffer, you should hear your music. Share the link anywhere.
5
Go live (optional)
Use the live connection details on your station page with an encoder like BUTT or Mixxx to broadcast live. AutoDJ resumes when you disconnect.

Getting started

Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Every plan begins with a free trial with no credit card required. You add payment only when you decide to continue.
How fast can I be on air?
Minutes. Your station provisions automatically at signup. After you upload songs, flag them for AutoDJ, and Publish, you are broadcasting.
What audio format should I use?
MP3. Keep good-quality source files for the best on-air sound.
Where do I find my listen link?
On your station page (the Listen button) and on the Quick Links page.

Media & AutoDJ

I uploaded songs but nothing plays. Why?
Uploading only fills your Library. Switch "In AutoDJ" On for the songs you want on air, then go to Playlists and click Publish to station.
What is the difference between the Library and AutoDJ?
The Library is everything you uploaded. AutoDJ is the subset you chose to broadcast. The split stops jingles or drafts from airing by accident.
My station loops one song.
Only one file is flagged for AutoDJ. Flag more songs (or use Add all to AutoDJ) and Publish.
I changed a playlist but the old one still plays.
Click Publish to station. Changes are not on air until you Publish.
A file I deleted is still playing.
The current track may finish first. Use Skip on the station Playout control, and make sure you have Published so only flagged files are in rotation.
What does "On air (30s)" do versus "Play next"?
On air (30s) brings a file on air within about 30 seconds by gently interrupting the current track. Play next queues it to play at the next natural change with no interruption.
Why is my uploaded file refused?
You are probably at your storage limit. Check the used/limit bar on the Media page; delete files or upgrade.

Playlists & jingles

Do I have to use playlists?
No - you can run purely on flagged files. Playlists add grouping, order control, variety rules, and jingles.
Shuffle vs Sequential?
Shuffle plays in random order. Sequential plays in order - use for a sermon series, an audiobook, or a themed run.
How do I add station jingles?
Create a Jingles/sweepers playlist, add your jingle files, and choose Off, After every X songs, or Every X minutes. Then Publish.
I set a no-repeat rule but songs still repeat.
A playlist must have enough tracks to satisfy the rule. If the pool is small, the engine still has to play something. Add more tracks or relax the rule.

Scheduling

What is the difference between a show and a playlist?
A playlist is a group of songs. A show is a slot on your schedule (day and time) that can play a chosen playlist, folder, or relay during its window, overriding AutoDJ.
My show does not change what plays.
Attach a source under "What plays during this show?" and ensure the show has valid days and a start/end time. A show set to Default AutoDJ rotation is only a label.
How do I edit a show?
Click Edit on its row; the form fills in below and jumps to it. Change it and Save changes.

Going live

What software do I need to broadcast live?
Any Icecast source client - ZairWave Studio, BUTT, or Mixxx are common. Enter your station live credentials into it.
What exact settings do I enter?
Host/server, port, mount (a slash plus your station short name), your username and password (all on the station page), format MP3, protocol Icecast 2, and a bitrate at or below your plan.
My encoder connects but I am not on air.
Check the mount and password are exactly right, confirm host/port and MP3/Icecast 2, and if AutoDJ is playing over you, use Take the air. Check the station page shows the mount UP.
Why do listeners hear me a few seconds late?
Normal stream buffering (10 to 30 seconds). It keeps playback smooth and is not a fault.

Channels

What is a channel?
A channel is a stream of your station. Extra channels broadcast the same content at a different bitrate or format - for example a low-data mobile stream plus a high-quality stream.
How do I add another channel?
On the Channels page, if your plan allows more than one channel, use "Add channel" - choose a name, mount suffix, format (MP3 or AAC), and bitrate. Then Publish.
Why can I not add a channel?
Extra channels depend on your plan. If you are at your limit, upgrade to add alternate streams.

Website & sharing

Can I have my own website and domain?
On supported plans, yes. Turn on the site from the Website page and connect a custom domain (with free SSL) from the Domain page.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes - your station website installs as a Progressive Web App from the phone browser (Add to Home Screen).
Can I embed a player on my own website?
Yes. The Widgets page gives copy-paste HTML for a player or now-playing box.

Troubleshooting

Golden checklist when something does not work.
One: did you Publish? Two: have you waited for the buffer (up to a minute)? Three: is anything actually flagged for AutoDJ? Four: if engine-level, try Restart. Five: if a file, try Re-sync to station.
Restart vs Publish - which do I use?
Programming changes (files, playlists, schedule, jingles) need Publish. Engine settings (bitrate, ports) or a misbehaving stream need Restart. Ordinary changes never need Restart.
Station dropped to the emergency loop.
Nothing is selected to play. Flag files for AutoDJ (or build a playlist) and Publish. The emergency loop is the safety net so the stream never fully drops.
